FOIA Request to Bevill State Community College Regarding Chinese National Students on May 16, 2025.

As part of our ongoing commitment to transparency and accountability in local governmental affairs, NW Alabama News has submitted a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to Bevill State Community College. This request seeks comprehensive records related to the enrollment and scholarship details of Chinese National students at the institution.

Our request specifically asks for documents or lists detailing all current students who are Chinese Nationals, including their respective departments of study. In cases where student names are protected, we have requested aggregated data showing the total number of such students and their distribution across various departments.

Additionally, we are seeking information on scholarships awarded to these students. This includes details about each scholarship’s amount and its source. We have also asked for identification of any scholarships linked with the Chinese Scholarship Council, if not already covered by our previous request.

Furthermore, we have requested access to any policies or procedures that outline how the university monitors its students—particularly Chinese Nationals—to safeguard intellectual property and other confidential information.

This FOIA request is made in collaboration with The Coalition Opposing Governmental Secrecy, a non-profit organization dedicated to promoting transparency in government actions. As media professionals committed to informing the public and holding institutions accountable, we believe this information is vital for maintaining an informed electorate.

We look forward to receiving a timely response from Bevill State Community College and will continue to report on developments as they unfold.
