Summer Fun: Special Events at Pelham Parks & Recreation

9

This summer, when the kids start complaining about being bored, look no farther than the Pelham Parks and Recreation for a fun-filled slate of activities sure to please everyone in the family.

JUNE 2022

Summer Kick-off Movie Night I Thursday, June 2

Kick-off summer with us at Pelham City Park!  Pack the blankets and lawn chairs and bring the family out to Movies in the Park on Thursday, June 2 for a screening of “Zootopia”. The fun begins at 6:15 p.m. in the area behind the Rec Center. Alicia Walters, Assistant Director of Pelham Parks and Recreation said there are some new features to this year’s event. “We love Movies in the Park, but we wanted to add additional family fun activities this summer. We desire to serve all ages in our community. We understand not all families can stay for a late-night movie, but they can come early to enjoy the games, face painting, and cornhole.”  Be sure to bring your appetite and plan to grab dinner or a snack from one of the food trucks available on site. At 8:00/8:15 p.m., the movie begins under the stars on the giant inflatable screen. The event is free, and leashed dogs are welcome.

Chalk the Park I Monday, June 13

Chalk the Park is a fun way for the young and young at heart to get creative and add some color and positive quotes to our beautiful Greenway Trail. This free event is Monday, June 13 beginning at 9:30 a.m. at the Pelham City Park Rec Center Pavilion. Sidewalk chalk will be provided while supplies last. “Chalk the Park and Popsicles in the Park were programs that were created during COVID. We could join together outdoors with old and new friends to smile, laugh, be creative and have fun! We want to encourage our community to enjoy the playground, trail, and the open green space at City Park,” said Walters

Family Kickball I Monday, June 27

It’s a classic game similar to baseball, and one you may remember from recess or gym class. Kickball is easy to learn and fun to play, which makes it a great activity for all ages.  The second annual Family Kickball Night is Monday, June 27 at the Pelham City Park fields from 5:45 p.m. until 7:15 p.m. Walters explained, “We had so many requests to offer another family kickball night, and we had to bring it back. We want to see even more families come out and play.  This is a fun night for all, you do not have to know much about kickball but just be ready to kick, run and cheer!”  Participants are encouraged to stay after the game to enjoy pizza and popsicles. The cost is $5 for four family members and $2 per additional family member. Registration is encouraged either in person at the Pelham Rec Center, or online by clicking here.

Parents, plan to stay and have the kids play while you visit with the other adults. You might want to bring a picnic blanket and pack a lunch to enjoy afterward.

Munch, Magic, & Movie Night I Friday, July 22

Movies in the Park returns on Friday, July 22 behind the Rec Center at Pelham City Park.   Be sure to arrive by 6:45 p.m. to purchase a “munchie” from the on-site food trucks, and enjoy fun and games. “We are excited to have a magician as part of this community night,” said Walters. The magic show starts at 8:00 p.m., and the movie begins at 8:15 p.m. Be sure to bring your blankets and lawn chairs for a relaxing evening under the stars. The event is free, and you can even bring your four-legged fur babies to Movie Night.
