February: Six businesses registered in cities found in Lamar County

There were six businesses that registered in cities within Lamar County during February, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 50 percent more than the month before, when four businesses were registered.

Millport registered the most businesses in Lamar County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
