Seven businesses registered in cities in Franklin County during February

There were seven businesses that registered in cities within Franklin County during February, according to the Alabama Secretary of State.

This is 42 percent less than the month before, when 12 businesses were registered.

Russellville registered the most businesses in Franklin County.

More than 99 percent of Alabama's businesses are considered small, with more than 47 percent of Alabama's employees working for a small business, according to the U.S. Small Business Administration.

A Civic Economics study found $100 spent at a locally-owned business puts $47 back into the local economy while the total is just $13 for non-local businesses.
